Malolos shuttlers dominate BP badminton tilt
MALOLOS City shuttlers dominated the badminton event of the just-concluded 2014 Batang Pinoy National Finals held at Pohang Badminton Center in Bacolod City.
The Bulacan-based badminton teams topped four of the six categories where they saw action.
Charles Carpio and Jeff Alisandro Cruz captured gold medals in the 12 years old and under boys doubles while Laguna Province’s Ron Jacob Galve and Rish Miguel Laboy secured the silver medals.
Carpio and Cruz also won bronze medals in the 12 years old and under singles division.
Laguna’s Carl Louis Canillo and Nestojan Tapales as well as Bacolod City’s tandem of Josh Elijah Templora and Rail Brian Rosadia settled for bronze medals.
In the 12 years old and under singles, Rizal’s Jewel Angelo Albo won the gold as Galve of Laguna settled for silver.
Malolos City’s Chanel Lunod and Qianxi Orillaneda flourished as they captured the gold and silver in the 15 years old and under girls singles and doubles.
Negros Occidental bet Danielle Grace Lopez and Mia Mangalimutan settled for silver medals as another Malolos team of Kristine Geronimo and Elizabeth Pimentel and Balamban’s Tricia Opon and Rose Tingson took home bronze medals.
Opon and Geronimo likewise settled for bronze in the 15 years old and under girls singles.
Malolos also dominated the 15 years old and under boys doubles as Bernardo siblings, Mathew and Bernard, defeated the Davao City duo of Estarco Balasco and Arthur Salvado in the finals.
Bacolod City’s Cody Torres and Justin Daniel Anglo alongside Hero Catud and Renan Masongsong finished bronze. Mathew Bernardo and Torres also settled for bronze in the 15 years old and under singles event.
Cagayan de Oro’s Daniel Pantanosas outplayed Ryan Jay Duromal of Balamban, Cebu to capture the gold medal in the 15 years old and under boys’ singles.
In the 12 years old and under girls singles, Taytay Rizal’s Anthea Marie Gonzalez ruled over Laguna’s Jochelle Alvarez to win the gold medal as another Taytay shuttler Olivia Jean Sanvictores and Cagayan’s Nevie Jane Natan settled for bronze.
Gonzalez teamed with Sanvictores and won the gold in the girls doubles as Cagayan’s Maxene Olango and Natan finished silver. Cadiz City’s Denise Agudo and Sophia Betita, and Negros Occidental’s Aira Gallardo and Kisha Tupas finished with bronze.
The tournament was supervised by the Philippine Badminton Association technical committee headed by Judith Borsula.
