MSi Jr. Team is a recognized badminton club from Malolos City founded in 2006 and headed by Rafael Nicolas “Coach Paeng” Dionisio. A recipient of the 2011 Gintong Kabataan Awards, the team made Bulacan a steady source of badminton players for the Philippine Badminton Team, the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), and a number of big corporations. The team contributes also to organizations like orphanages and homes for the elderly through their annual outreach programs.

Sun Cellular shuttlers vying in Tokyo tourney

A WELL-HONED Philippine badminton team is set to see action in the Asian Junior Sports Exchange 2015 on Aug. 25 to 31 in Tokyo.

The team is made up of Jewel Albo, Ian Maui Santos, Ramon Timothy Santos, Mikaela Joy de Guzman, Mica Airah Ibong and Olivia Jean Sanvictores, all products of the Sun Cellular National Juniors Badminton tournament.

Rafael Nicolas Dionisio and Wilfredo Albo will coach the squad.

Meanwhile, the Mindanao leg of the Sun Cellular Badminton tournament gets going on Aug. 21 to 23 at Smash N’ Drop Badminton Center in San Pedro Extension, Davao City.

Organizer Forthright Events and Sports Management Inc. is now accepting registrants at suncellularjuniors.com until Aug. 15.

The event is bankrolled by Sun Cellular and MVP Sports Foundation and backed by Smash Pilipinas and Victor.

"My aim is to promote Badminton amongst the youth, to develop National athletes, and to help those who are financially incapable of supporting themselves in pursuing their Badminton skills.

As a coach/trainer, I believe anything is possible, anything is achievable, and anything is within our reach.

I have the passion to develop and produce real athletes. I am willing to help, to exert time and effort to train every player, even to those who can't afford it.

Not just to achieve outstanding results in every tournament, but most importantly I want to instill in every player the proper attitude and discipline to be a good athlete that will help them later on in their badminton career and in life.
